Gregory Crewdson is one of the photographers I found most fascinating in the way he does his work. He fits in well with this brief because his photographers show a story. Crewdson is an american photographer who's images are based on film sets. He spends a long time and a lot of money making the scenes he creates perfect. Crewdson uses movie production techniques to create his images and these scenes are the 'in between moments' and the viewer has to fill in the rest of what they might think has just happened and what is about to happen.
I like how he will use one image to build a sense of narrative and make me as a viewer wondering what has happened? Because this how the image makes me feel I know that he uses an 'Open Structure' which means that the audience is left wondering what will happen next and try to make sense of what has just happened and Crewdson does all this within one photograph.
Crewdson has said about his images:
"When I'm making my pictures, I never really think about what happens before or what happens after."
This adds to the point that he wants the audience to create there own story line to the image and come up with there own conclusions about what has and what is to happen before and after the image was taken. In a way the viewers are seeing the photograph as a still image but in there head viewing it as a film because they create some thought in there head and come up with a whole story line themselves.
Here are a few images that show how his work turns out using the techniques he does.

Gregory Crewdson has also had books published. One being 'Beneath The Roses' this is a book of images that shows 'the dark side of small town america' the images show relationships between people in the images but there not quite right and don't seem normal. Another book Crewdson has done is 'Twlight', this book is one which has all his images that are the film stills he creates. I feel that its important to have titles for your work like Crewdson has does for most of his work, doing this means people can depict titles to try and find out the meaning behind the work. Knowing this will make me consider titles for my own work.
