When I got the circular narrative brief and my image which was the exit sign. I was quite unsure on how I was going to do the whole project because at first I found the concept of a circular narrative quite hard to understand. Because of this being the case I decided to spend a lot of time researching into what a circular narrative and all different kinds of narratives. To do this I researched a lot online and also watched all different kinds of films that had circular narratives to help me understand better.
Researching different films helped me a lot with this brief especially one called 'Memento' and 'Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind'. These two films were the main two that made me understand the concept of a circular narrative more.
The image that I was given was one of an exit sign. At first I found it really difficult to come up with an idea that would go with this image and was just finding it so hard to think of an idea. But finally I had my first initial idea.
My initial idea was to do a series of images which would be about a circle of life. After a feedback session though we realised that this series of images would be to hard to do in the time given and that I would have to get permission to take images in a hospital. After deciding that I couldn't do this as an idea because it would me to hard I decided on another idea. My next idea was showing a shopping trip and starting and ending in a car park. I made sure that all my images were in colour and landscape so they flowed well as a series and circular narrative.
Once I had decided on this I went out and took my images starting in the car park and then going on through the day shopping and back to the car park. While out I took a lot of images and then had to narrow them down this took me a while to pick the right images because I wanted them to fit in perfectly within my narrative. I would show my images on a gallery wall in a portrait order.
I feel that my narrative turned out well with the time I had, I found this brief quite hard to concentrate on and do in time because of family issues at home but with the time I had I felt that it turned out well and fits in well with the brief. If I had chance to do this again I think I would find more time make it easier, only because I haven't had long to do this because of things at home. But overall I feel this project went well.
